No, really, what’s in my mailbox? Can someone go check because it’s December now and that means I absolutely cannot leave this couch without unwrapping myself from blankets, re-wrapping myself in flannel and fleece, and finding a matching pair of gloves.
So these things are actually not in my mailbox right now, but they were recently and I’m so excited about them that I needed to share them with someone. Well, that’s actually not true. These were all too big to fit in my mailbox, so they were left on a table next to my mailbox, but that didn’t make for a very catchy (or short) blog post title.
Speaking of things left next to my mailbox… I went downstairs on Black Friday to find a package addressed to me from the North Pole and just about lost my $#&@ when I realized it was my very own Elf on the Shelf! Let’s keep in mind that I’m a childless 34-year old, but I have wanted one for so long now and was so touched that someone from the North Pole hand-delivered one to me that I got all emotional reading the book and started doing that weird laugh-crying thing. Dan said it looked as if some sort of exorcism was happening. Ok, moving on now.
First up! If you’ve been anywhere within 5 feet of me since last month, you’ve heard me talk about my Stitch Fix box. This was actually my second one and I’m counting down the days until my third one arrives. Ten. In case you were wondering.
I won’t go into too much detail here since we have a lot of things to cover, but Stitch Fix is basically a subscription service where you pay $20 per box for your stylist to choose 5 things they think you will love. That $20 goes toward anything you buy, so you only lose it if you buy nothing.
Things I love: the clothes, choosing how often you want to receive a box, sending everything back in a prepaid envelope, styling ideas, and the anticipation.
Things I don’t love: the prices are high for some items. That’s literally the only thing I don’t love. And apparently I’m excellent at convincing myself that it’s worth it because last month I splurged (<----- gross word) on a pair of $78 jeans. I have never spent that much on jeans in my life, but these were so soft and I had been dying for a distressed pair, so I kept them and have not regretted it. They're my new weekend uniform. I've also kept the shirt above and a scarf, but those weren't nearly as expensive.
Ok, NEXT! I have a slight obsession with subscription services, so I also just received my first Love with Food box. I’ve been in love with food my whole life, so it’s refreshing to finally come out of the pantry about it and have this love recognized.
There are several different plans to chose from, but this is the tasting box filled with 8 different snacks for $10/month (it’s less if you commit to more than month-to-month). Guys. There was CHOCOLATE!
And some healthy-ish snacks for those who need that. I wash those down with cheesecake.
I threw everything into my work bag, so my morning snack was really exciting for a few days. Yes, only a few days. Don’t judge.
For every box they sell, they donate a meal to a food bank, so I think the warm and fuzzy feeling that goes along with that also burns some calories. It’s science or something.
Next up is an item on my Christmas list that I could not wait until Christmas for, so I ordered it for myself. I find with Christmas that for every one thing I buy as a gift, one more thing comes off my own list as well. More science perhaps?
This is the Smashbox Art Love Color Master Class palette and I think I have already got my money’s worth with it. I have honestly used it every single day since I got it a couple of weeks ago. There are 32 shadows, 6 blushes (1 is more of a bronzer) and 2 highlighters, and the colors are just incredible and so pigmented.
And of course, you always get lots of free goodies when you order online at Sephora.
Oh, actually, there have been a lot of bills in my mailbox lately too. Should I go photograph them?
If you want to see any of these in more detail, let me know in the comments! My next subscription boxes will arriving soon!
